Groundhoppers Watch The Clun

The club are very excited at the news that our game against Cardiff Corries has been moved to Sunday 12th March to allow the football fan organisation of Groundhoppers to watch the game.

This is always a great event with the Groundhoppers turning out in large numbers and hopefully we’ll get a large contingent of our supporters attending as well.

Kick off will be at 3pm and the game will take place at the Riverside Ground, CF15 8AA.

Pontyclun Football Club will be hosting their  Annual Gentlemans Evening on Friday 19th May 2017 at Pontyclun Athletic Club. The Club are delighted to announce that this years guest speaker , will be ex Derby, Liverpool and Welsh International Dean Saunders.

Now becoming one of the most sought after speakers on the circuit Dean Saunders is a former player with a wealth of stories about his vast career which has taken him too many places.

In his football career Dean started at Swansea City, joined Cardiff City on loan before moving on to Brighton, Oxford United, Derby County, Liverpool, Galatasary, Nottingham Forest, Blackburn Rovers, Sheffield United, Benfica and Bradford City. He now appears regularly on BBC TV and SKY as a summariser and is constantly in demand.

He won the last of his caps against Ukraine in 2001 just a few months short of his 37th birthday.

A first class speaker with a first class reputation.

The night promises to be one of the best with comedy and compering provided by Jed Stone and some surprises in store for the auction, which last year included signed shirts from Gareth Bale, Cristiano Ronaldo and Luis Suarez.

Pontyclun FC 120th Anniversary

Pontyclun FC are proud to be celebrating our 120th anniversary since being established in 1896. The club continues to be at the heart of the village with teams from U6’s through to two Senior teams.

To celebrate the 120th anniversary the club have had produced commemorative cufflinks and pin badges (pictured above). The cuff links are £10 and the badges £3 with both being available from Phil Sweet on match days.

Pitch Perfect

Pontyclun FC would like to thank the ongoing ground maintenance services they are receiving from Marcon Services. The torrential rain over the last week claimed the majority of games this weekend in South Wales but thanks to the work done by Marcon over the summer Ivor Park’s pitch was in good condition to allow Pontyclun’s game to take place.

Pontyclun FC approached Mark Convery, Managing Director of Marcon Services, at the end of last season following a season of mass fixture disruption due to the weather during the season. A lot of time and effort has gone into the pitch by Mark and his team over the last few months which is already starting to pay dividends.

A key part of the success is the aeration process that has taken place which is possible from the machinery that Marcon have at their disposal. The club are delighted with the service and results they have received.

If you would like to also take advantage of the superb services Marcon offer then you can contact them on 01443 800719, sales@marconservices.co.uk or check out their website www.marconservices.co.uk.

Pontyclun FC 6 a-side Tournament

The annual 6 a-side tournament, hosted by Pontyclun FC, will take place this Saturday (23rd July) at Ivor Park. As always it promises to be a great day with lots of good football on display (and some not so good!). All proceeds from the day go to help funding the running costs of the club including the new clubhouse.

It would be great to see as many people from the community on the day attending and supporting your local football club especially after such a great summer for Welsh football.

The day kicks off at 10.30am and runs into the evening with plenty of food & drink to purchase with volunteers running the BBQ and bar.

New Coaching Team for 2016-17

Pontyclun FC are delighted to announce that Eliot Davey & Martin Lawrence will be taking over as First Team Coaches for the 2017 season. This follows Adrian James stepping down at the end of the 2017 season,  everyone at the club would like to thank Adrian for everything he did for the club. Adrian helped bring stability following our relegation from the Welsh League and led the club to their first cup final in many years. He has left a young, talented squad for Eliot & Martin to work with and everyone will remember the work he put in over the last 4 years.

Eliot returns to the club following his retirement from playing at the end of 2012 and has previously managed the club during their time in Welsh League Division 2. He has been involved with the club for almost 15 years and brings a wealth of footballing and local knowledge to the team.

Martin has won the clubman of the year multiple times and has been managing the youth team for several years. Martin has received many plaudits for the amount of players he has helped come through into the senior setup and the club were delighted when he accepted the opportunity to be involved in the First Team coaching setup.

The two coaches will support First Team Manager, Barry Quinn, and be assisted by Joel Woodington (Assistant Coach) and Huw Jones (Goalkeeping Coach) for the 2016-2017 season.

Pre-season begins Tuesday 5th July, 6.30pm at Ivor Park and everyone at the club wishes all new and old personnel the best of luck for the season.

Book Your Place – Pre-season Taunton Trip

Pre-season is nearly upon us and that means our annual pre-season trip to Taunton has arrived. The trip is always a good first team bonding session of the year and has grown in numbers year on year.

This year we will be leaving the familiar settings of Taunton Town’s hospitality and instead we will be facing Staplegrove FC of the Somerset Counties League. The game will be played on a 3G facility in Taunton and we will then go back to Staplegrove’s clubhouse to enjoy their hospitality.

The trip will involve an overnight stay in Taunton, with a bus leaving on the morning of Saturday 30th July and returning on the afternoon of the 31st July.

If you would like to reserve a place on the bus please put your details below or contact Barry Quinn on 07732855882. There will be limited spaces on the bus outside of the playing/coaching staff so please make sure you book on in advance as places fill quickly.

Pontyclun Steal the Headlines

A few murmurings about where Pontyclun FC could end up this season have began to surface among the local faithful as they extended their unbeaten league run to move up to second place in the South Wales Amateur League.

Not only is their form being discussed in the Athletic club, but in this weeks edition of the South Wales Echo Pontyclun’s dominant performance over local rivals Treforest stole the headline and there was a special mention for the in form striker Joel Woodington with a superb hat-trick on the day.

Games in hand for surrounding clubs mean the table isn’t perhaps a true reflection of where teams will be by Christmas but with confidence sky high and some big games coming in November they definitely are putting themselves in the mix.
