The Clun Are Going Up!

Pontyclun FC are delighted to announce that they will be playing Welsh League football once again next season. This comes following a 3-2 victory over second placed Penydarren BGC at their ground on Saturday meaning that we cannot be caught at the top of the table.

This victory is a culmination of 5 years of hard work, following the clubs relegation, spear headed by the First Team Manager, Barry Quinn, who has been part of all the highs and lows as a player then manager for the last 20 years. Barry was quoted following the win as saying:

“Pontyclun FC is a special club and the group we have are immense, a pleasure to work with and will keep getting better. I want to thank the coaching team, Martin, Eliot and Haj who deserve a massive congratulations for the hard work they’ve put in this year. Thank you to everyone who has been involved in this season and we look forward to seeing you all at Ivor Park once again next season.”

The club’s final game will take place on the 6th May where we will be presented with the League Trophy and we hope to see a big crowd for the event where food and drinks will be available.

There is also a special mention to the clubs main sponsors; Diamonds Sales & Lettings, CMS Teamwear, GSH Architects and Marcon Services for all your support during the season which would not have been possible without your help.

A final thank you from all of the players to the committee, management, supporters and volunteers. The club is very fortunate to have so many people that think very highly of it and now with the facilities we have and superb junior section in place the club is in a very strong position and this is all down to the thousands of hours given up by so many.

Groundhoppers Watch The Clun

The club are very excited at the news that our game against Cardiff Corries has been moved to Sunday 12th March to allow the football fan organisation of Groundhoppers to watch the game.

This is always a great event with the Groundhoppers turning out in large numbers and hopefully we’ll get a large contingent of our supporters attending as well.

Kick off will be at 3pm and the game will take place at the Riverside Ground, CF15 8AA.

For One Night Only!

Keep the 4th of March free ready for Pontyclun FC’s next social event, “Stars in Their Eyes”. Supporters, parents and players will be having a makeover and for One Night Only performing as their musical heroes.

All monies raised on the night will go to the club and all the support is massively appreciated. Tickets are on sale from any of the coaches, players or Phil Sweet for £5.

We look forward to seeing some new and old faces on what promises to be another great club social night!

Pontyclun 2017 Gents Evening

Pontyclun Football Club will be hosting their  Annual Gentlemans Evening on Friday 19th May 2017 at Pontyclun Athletic Club. The Club are delighted to announce that this years guest speaker , will be ex Derby, Liverpool and Welsh International Dean Saunders.

Now becoming one of the most sought after speakers on the circuit Dean Saunders is a former player with a wealth of stories about his vast career which has taken him too many places.

In his football career Dean started at Swansea City, joined Cardiff City on loan before moving on to Brighton, Oxford United, Derby County, Liverpool, Galatasary, Nottingham Forest, Blackburn Rovers, Sheffield United, Benfica and Bradford City. He now appears regularly on BBC TV and SKY as a summariser and is constantly in demand.

Dean played in over 700 games and scored 254 goals, capped by Wales on 75 occasions, scoring 22 goals for his country.

After retiring from football in 2001 he became a coach and then moved on to Newcastle United in 2004 initially as strikers coach, and then first team coach under old boss Graeme Souness. He left Newcastle in 2006 and took his coaching badges and was appointed assistant manger of Wales in June 2007.

He was one of the Welsh national side’s most prolific scorers. Made his debut as a 21 year old against Ireland in 1986, no Welsh fan will ever forget his goal which secured a famous 1-0 win over Brazil in Cardiff in 1991. He won the last of his caps against Ukraine in 2001 just a few months short of his 37th birthday.

A first class speaker with a first class reputation.

The night promises to be one of the best with comedy and compering provided by Jed Stone and some surprises in store for the auction, which last year included signed shirts from Gareth Bale, Cristiano Ronaldo and Luis Suarez.

Tickets are £35 and include a 4 course meal. As always they sell out fast with a large proportion sold to returning happy guests!

Disco/Singer Fundraiser

Pontyclun FC are holding a fundraiser this Saturday at Pontyclun Athletic Club. The night will begin with a performance from local singer Lowri Morris and this will be followed with a disco until late.

Doors will open at 7.30pm and tickets are available from the Athletic Club or from any of the players.

Pitch Perfect

Pontyclun FC would like to thank the ongoing ground maintenance services they are receiving from Marcon Services. The torrential rain over the last week claimed the majority of games this weekend in South Wales but thanks to the work done by Marcon over the summer Ivor Park’s pitch was in good condition to allow Pontyclun’s game to take place.

Pontyclun FC approached Mark Convery, Managing Director of Marcon Services, at the end of last season following a season of mass fixture disruption due to the weather during the season. A lot of time and effort has gone into the pitch by Mark and his team over the last few months which is already starting to pay dividends.

A key part of the success is the aeration process that has taken place which is possible from the machinery that Marcon have at their disposal. The club are delighted with the service and results they have received.

If you would like to also take advantage of the superb services Marcon offer then you can contact them on 01443 800719, sales@marconservices.co.uk or check out their website www.marconservices.co.uk.

Pontyclun FC 6 a-side Tournament

The annual 6 a-side tournament, hosted by Pontyclun FC, will take place this Saturday (23rd July) at Ivor Park. As always it promises to be a great day with lots of good football on display (and some not so good!). All proceeds from the day go to help funding the running costs of the club including the new clubhouse.

It would be great to see as many people from the community on the day attending and supporting your local football club especially after such a great summer for Welsh football.

The day kicks off at 10.30am and runs into the evening with plenty of food & drink to purchase with volunteers running the BBQ and bar.
